There are many different types of tenrecs, and estimated 28. Unfortunately, biologists are finding that some species they have discovered are not really new species, but young versions of already discovered tenrecs, or something else. This is particularly common with the microgale, or shrew tenrecs. So this page may not be the most accurate thing on earth. So far we have information on the following tenrecs:

Dobson's Shrew Tenrec

Tailless Tenrec

Streaked Tenrec

Microgale longicaudata, or the long-tailed shrew tenrec, has a tail almost twice it's size!
