Tenrec
Tenrec ecaudatus Also known as the common tenrec, the tailless tenrec has yellow brown fur, with bristles and spines. It has a long nose, and it's forelimbs are longer than it's hind limbs. It is commonly found near water sources, in inland plateaus and costal humid forests. It can be found in Madagascar, the Comoro Islands, and this islands of Reunion, Mauritius, and Saychelles. Males fight during breeding season. Babies are born between December and January, with as many as 32 to a litter. Females have an average of 12 nipples. Babies are born with their eyes closed, and their eyes open within two weeks. After three weeks they can follow their mother when she searches for food, and after four weeks they can eat solid food. They leave their mother after two months. |
