Here Be Tenrecs |

|
Tenrecs
are a very strange species of insectivore. There are roughly 28 different
kinds of tenrec, and they are all very different. Some look like beavers,
while others are like shrews and otters. Some are cold blooded, and some
can lay a record breaking 32 babies at a time! The strange thing is that
they all originated from one or two otter shrews who washed up on the
shore of Madagascar, long after it broke off from India (see Madagascar).
So how did Tenrecs evolve to become so different? Scientists are still working on it, but we are learning more about Tenrecs everyday. |
