Dobson's Shrew Tenrec

Microgale dobsoni

The Dobson's Shrew Tenrec has a tail that is roughly the same size as its body. It has brown fur, with a grey underbelly. Its body and head length is 8-11 inches, while its tail is 9-13 inches long. It weighs 25-45g for most of the year. Before winter its weight increases to 80g. It forges for food and listens for its prey. It can store fat in its tail, and is the only Tenrec able to do so!

It breeds in spring and summer, with a gestation period of about 62-64 days.
